I've Been Dying To Tell You Anything You Want To Hear

I'm done hun
How's that for a rhyme?
It's time to run
You're running outta time
The fun is done
The clock is gonna chime
This isn't a pun
My heatbeat's gonna climb
Is that look, stun?
I've committed no crime
No bullet in this gun
I've a penny, not a dime
I'm meek as a lion
As clean as the grime
As dark as the sun
At midday noontime
I'm sick of tension
Even now in its prime
Now you're the one
Speechless as a mime

I Can't Go On Like This Much Longer

This is probably the one and only time
I will say it like it is without using a rhyme
Usually I hide behind the words and the verse
Because it's hard to say everything unrehearsed

But I'm gonna let it come straight out of my mind
And I'll let the words come just like they are blind
I am struggling to understand the cause,
The reason behind the feelings when I pause

It's like, when I'm busy, I really am fine
But when I stop and have some personal time
I just, have this dull ache that doesn't go away
I try and think it off, and shake it off, but it stays

The thing that I don't let people understand at all
Is that even when I smile, when i'm struggling, it's false
I think it actually hurts more to smile through the hurt
But I don't want people to feel like they have to comfort

I just want one person to care about how I am doing
Like, genuinely care, and not have any previous cuing
But I always feel selfish when I start to think this way
So I go out to love others, but let's be honest, inside, I pay

I don't want to just run away again and leave it
But sometimes I just don't know how to relieve it
Everything I try to do to loosen it's rediculous grip
Just seems to make it worse and make me trip

I don't know. Maybe i'm just being a dumb girl
Maybe it's still, when I feel like it's all a whirl
I wonder when the storm will break, like a fever
Running down the field, like a open wide receiver

But for some reason, I think that it's somehow climbing
I'm just glad I can express myself without just rhyming
I feel a little better choosing not to hide behind freestyles
I guess i'll just keep on trucking down this road for awhile

The Best of Me is Still Hiding Up My Sleeve

I didn't understand when they said
"When we leave here the 'real world' is lurking"
I argued 'til in the face I was red
And laughed as I just kept on working

"The 'real world" I thought "is the stupidest thing"
"To ever invent or desire"
Little did I know in a cage it was pawing
To envelop me like the flames of a fire

I understand now what they meant when they insisted
When we left there the 'real world' was present
It's not so much that the 'real world' existed
They just meant they'd be altered and different

Frustrated

I don't feel like rhyming
Cuz i'm only creative when I'm content
I get all off on timing
And my words are crooked and bent
So if you're reading this tonight
My apologies
It's bland and dumb and meaningless
Maybe tomorrow I'll unfreeze

Rhyme inspired by sarcasm, frustration, and a hint of lonliness

Resume

I taught the children their colors and shapes
I rang up produce, apples and grapes
I tutored spanish for kids in need
I corrected their tests in lightning speed
I assisted a teacher clerically
I figured out grades numerically
I made pizza and sandwiches
I trained weights for women of all ages
I counseled youth in the gospel
I worked at an animal hospital
I mixed the flour and the dough
I helped take food to kids in the ghetto
I counseled counselors, it was fun
When will my resume finally be done?

Rhyme inspired by the countless resumes and
applications I have filled out today

When You Are Blue Wear Red

Welcome to Detroit City
I've seen things I wish I'd not, people dying on the spot
The city carries it heavy and hot, everybody is an enemy to be fought
I don't understand why people gotta end with a shot
It takes more than I got, to understand this plot

My memories expressed to only those who know me best
But i'm unimpressed by my lack of interest
How can I act so selfishly when I am so blessed?
It's time that I invest and be the one that I've professed

Only I know where I've been
I know the thickness of my skin
Me and my kin, we sin, but always come back here again
The changes in my life only begin to trickle in

But I still think about, all those kids who live without
When their life is a drought and they got nothin but doubt
Running the same route, just to find there's no way out
There's nothin I can do. Put my pillow to my face and shout
